Bond 25: Phrase "Bond girl" is 'banned' on set of final Daniel Craig film

It's all change on the set of Bond 25.

With the recent revelation that Captain Marvel star Lashana Lynch will be playing the new 007 with her character Nomi, and the news that Fleabag screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge is freshening up the script after Daniel Craig requested it, it seems we are in for a different kind of Bond film.

Now the Daily Mail has reported that the widely-used phrase "Bond girl" has been banned from the set of the 25th James Bond film.

A source said: "We were all told that from now on they are to be addressed as 'Bond women'."

The news follows complaints that the phrase was outdated and misogynistic towards women, with connotations regarding age and defining the characters through the eyes of Bond.

Killing Eve novelist Luke Jennings previously slammed the use of the phrase.

Jennings tweeted: "And is there a more nauseating phrase than "Bond girl"?"

Bond 25 will feature four "Bond women", with Naomie Harris returning to her role as M's secretary Eve Moneypenny, and Lea Seydoux reprising her SPECTRE role as Bond's lover, Dr. Madeleine Swann.

Joining Lynch as a new addition is Blade Runner 2049 star Ana de Armas as Paloma.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who also works on the Killing Eve series, has said that she thinks the Bond franchise is still relevant but needs to change.

"It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to his character."

Bond 25 is released in UK cinemas on April 3, 2020.
