Bombshell trio Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie and Nicole Kidman hit the red carpet at the film's LA premiere

New movie Bombshell isn’t out in cinemas yet but the cast have plenty to celebrate as it has already garnered two Golden Globe nominations.

Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie and Nicole Kidman hit the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday night, looking understandably delighted as they posed for pictures.

The film is based the sexual harassment scandal that rocked media empire Fox News, coming to a head in 2016.

Theron plays former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly - who was one of the women who accused the channel’s boss Roger Ailes of sexual harassment - while Robbie stars as a fictional character named Kayla Popsisil, who starts working for the broadcaster.

Both women have been nominated for Golden Globes, in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Supporting Actress categories, respectively.

At the premiere, Theron sported a black Dior dress with fringing detail and slicked back hair, while Robbie donned a lilac Giambattista Valli gown with a floral motif.

Kidman went for an androgynous look, with a sequined jacket and black tie.

Bombshell will arrive in UK cinemas in January and following its Golden Globes nods, the Jay Roach-directed film is being tipped to make the Oscars shortlists too.

While Theron shared her excitement at landing a nomination, she's one of many stars who have hit out at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's all-male Best Director shortlist.

"It’s not cool," she told the LA Times. "It’s really hard, and I think it’s unfair, and it’s why we can’t stop this fight.

"We gotta keep making noise until we’re heard and these stories get recognised.
