A car bombing targeted on Thursday Turkish forces and allied factions in the Ahras village in the Ain al-Ain countryside in the northern part of the Hasakeh region in Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported casualties, including among Turkish forces. The Turkish defense ministry did not comment on the incident.

The rights monitor had on April 5 reported a violent bombing that targeted a checkpoint for the pro-Turkey “Ahrar al-Sharqiya” faction in the town of Mabrouka in Ras al-Ain, leaving several casualties among the group.

Separately, Turkish and Russian forces deployed new joint patrols in the eastern countryside of the city of Ain al-Arab (Kobane). The patrols were accompanied by two Russian helicopters flying at low altitude in the area.

This was the second joint patrol in the area after a previous one was launched by Turkey and Syria on April 6. It swept several villages west of Ain al-Arab.

Thursday’s patrol is the 40th to be deployed since the signing of the Sochi agreement on October 22, 2019. The deal saw Turkey agree to halt its “Peace Spring” operation that it had launched, along with allied factions, against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), the military backbone of the Syrian Democratic Forces, in the region east of the Euphrates River in northeastern Syria.
