Bombay High Court grants Arnab Goswami appearance exemption till April 16 in abetment to suicide case

The Bombay High Court on Friday granted exemption to Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami from making personal appearances in an Alibaug court in relation to an abetment to suicide case till April 16 by, LiveLaw reported.

This comes after the chief judicial magistrate of Alibaug summoned Goswami to appear on March 10 in the abetment to suicide case of interior designer Anvay Naik. The CJM had also refused to give exemption from appearance.

Goswami had sought exemption till his petition to quash the FIR and chargesheet against him in the case is decided as he apprehended detention and “false implication” in unknown cases, according to LiveLaw.

His advocates told the court on Friday that they had filed an interim application for exemption from hearing as Goswami had been summoned to appear before the Alibaug court on March 10. The advocates argued that there should be no compulsion for Goswami to appear before the court on March 10 and then the matter can be fixed on any convenient date for the hearing.

“Since we are seized of the matter we will grant protection and ad-interim for player clause ‘a’,” said the court. The matter is fixed for further hearing on April 16.
