Bombay high court gets six new judges, to take oath on Friday

MUMBAI: The President of India on Thursday appointed six new Judges to the Bombay high court. The six are likely to be sworn in on Friday and they include one woman Judge.

The notification issued said the President is pleased to appoint Sanjay Deshmukh, Y G Khobragade, MW Chandwani, A S Waghwase, R M Joshi and Vrushali Joshi. They will first be 'Additional Judge’ for a period of two years with the date they assume charge.

The new appointments, all elevated from the in-service category as judicial officers, take the strength of Judges to 67, still 27 short of the sanctioned 94.

Chandwani is at present the Registrar General of the HC, the senior most post on the administrative side. The other five are district and sessions court Judges with Judge Vrushali Joshi having been a special women’s court Judge earlier. Her addition takes the strength of women Justices to nine out of 67.
