AURANGABAD: The Bombay high court in Aurangabad on Friday imposed a Rs1 lakh cost on a petitioner while rejecting a PIL that sought the court's direction to stop MNS chief Raj Thackeray's public rally on May 1 here.
"The matter was mentioned at 5.30pm on Friday before the bench of Justice R D Dhanuka and Justice S G Mehare. The court rejected the PIL with cost of Rs1 lakh on the background that the Commissioner of Police, Aurangabad has taken all care while granting permission for meeting," assistant government pleader (AGP) A R Kale stated in an urgent communication to the principal secretary, home department and the Aurangabad commissioner of police.
Thackeray is scheduled to address the rally at the Marathwada Sanskritik Mandal grounds on the evening of May 1.
The Republican Party of India'sAurangabad district youth wing president, Jaikishan Kamble, had filed the petition through his lawyer, Ajay Kanawade, seeking an urgent hearing on the grounds that the rally was to be held in another two days.
