Bombay Bicycle Club - Everything Else Has Gone Wrong review: A simply charming return

Bombay Bicycle Club were never changing the world, were they? With their new album, they still aren’t.

Saying that, Everything Else Has Gone Wrong is a dreamy, pacy album with more than enough of their signature charm to be convincing — plus a few surprises — and it proves that taking a six-year hiatus doesn’t mean you’ll forget how to do your job.

The highlights reel includes the spirited Is It Real, which builds and builds into an earwormer, and title track Everything Else Has Gone Wrong, an anthem about survival (“I guess I’ve found my peace again”). Good Day is a wistful ballad about workaday struggles that will speak to their millennial fanbase.

There’s a bit of filler — Let You Go is trying a bit hard — but otherwise it’s a simple, charmer of a record. Welcome back.
