Bomb unit saves man stuck in Wee Jasper hole

Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit officers have rescued a man who became stuck in a small cave opening at Wee Jasper late on Sunday evening.

The 26-year-old man became stuck when trying to ascend through a small opening 10 metres underground.

He was with a small group who were abseiling 20 metres down a cave.

With assistance from other members of the group, the man was helped down to the bottom of the cave.

The man's friends sent food, water and warm clothing down to the man.

NSW Police, Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance paramedics, Ambulance Rescue and the TOLL Rescue helicopter arrived to help rescue him at about 8pm.

Specialist police from the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit started to assist operations at 10pm, and the man returned to the surface less than an hour later.

He was assessed by paramedics, who said he was uninjured.
