Bomb squads have been scrambled 5,000 times in five years to disarm potentially deadly wartime explosives.
That figure could soar as building projects unearth more bombs across UK cities.
The 5,041 alerts between 2014 and 2018 were revealed in the week of the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
The last bombs of the Second World War were dropped on Britain in 1944.
At least 24,000 tons of high explosives rained down on London alone in 85 German raids.
The MoD says around 10 per cent did not explode.
Liverpool, Birmingham, Plymouth, Glasgow, Hull, Sheffield, Southampton, Bristol, Coventry, Manchester and Portsmouth.
More than 40,000 died in The Blitz as Hitler’s Luftwaffe unleashed hell.
The MoD urges the public to raise the alert immediately if they find old devices.
The Army said: “We advise the public to contact police as a matter of urgency.”
Last month, 3,000 homes were evacuated after a UXB was found at Kingston University, Surrey.
A week later, near Wapping, East London, a suspected bomb on the banks of the Thames turned out to be a giant Christmas bauble.
