Bomb squad to carry out controlled explosion after suspect device found in Clydebank

A bomb squad will carry out a controlled explosion after a suspect device was found in a shed in Clydebank.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Beeches Road in Dunctocher after the device was discovered just before mid-day (Tuesday).

Nearby residents have been evacuated from their homes and a 100m cordon was put in place.

West Dunbartonshire police have now confirmed the cordon has been lifted and a controlled explosion will be carried out.

They said: "The cordon around Beeches Road has been lifted.

"The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team will carry out a controlled explosion in a nearby field so residents might hear this.

"Thanks for your patience."

Officers had earlier advised: "We received a report of ordnance found in a shed on Beeches Road around 11.55pm today.

"A 100m cordon has been put in place.

"People have been evacuated from nearby houses and we are asking people to stay away from the area. EOD will attend to check the item."
