Bomb squad rushed to scene as 'explosive chemical' found at Dublin hospital

The bomb squad was this morning called in as the Defence Forces carried out a controlled explosion in Dublin.

The grounds of a hospital in the capital were closed off during the incident at around 7am.

The Army Bomb Disposal team rushed to St James's Hospital to carry out the operation after the discovery of an "explosive chemical", Dublin Live reports.

Gardai were alerted about the "hazardous and suspicious substance" shortly after 7am immediately calling on the Bomb squad to intervene.

The team identified the material as a chemical that had become explosive and carried out a controlled explosion.
