Bomb squad rush to scene of hand grenade found in Dublin home

A bomb squad swarmed a Dublin home after a historic hand grenade was discovered this morning.

An explosive dating back to the "War of Independence era" was found at a property at Sallynoggin Road on Wednesday morning at 11am.

The home was cordoned off as gardai and the bomb disposal squad investigated the suspect device.

The grenade was removed to Thomastown Park where it was made safe by a controlled explosion at 11.40am.

An army spokesman said: "Should members of the public encounter suspicious items, or hazardous substances, they are advised to maintain a safe distance and inform An Garda Síochána."
