Bomb squad called after historic hand grenade found in garden shed

Police have been called to a property after the discovery of a possible hand grenade.

A 100 metre cordon was in place on Conway Court in Cefn Fforest in Blackwood after Gwent Police received a call that a hand grenade had been found in a garden shed.

Gwent Police said the bomb squad was contacted, and the cordon has now been removed.

In a statement, Gwent Police said: "At approximately 10:40am this morning we received a call reporting a device, possibly a historic hand grenade, had been found in a garden shed on Conway Court in Cefn Fforest."

At 3pm they said: "The police cordon that was in place in the Conway Court area of Cefn Fforest has now been removed. We’d evacuated a number of houses, as a precaution.

"The Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has now examined the device, confirmed it’s not live and it’s been taken away for safe disposal."
