Bomb squad races to Scots beach following report of explosive device

Bomb disposal experts raced to a Scots beach after a suspected explosive device was discovered.

The suspicious object was found at Seamill beach in Ayrshire this afternoon.

The alarm was raised at around 12:05pm and emergency services rushed to the scene.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) was deployed and the A78 near to where the item was discovered was shut down.

EOD and the Coastguard then worked together to deal with the incident.

The area has since reopened.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 12.05pm on Tuesday, 9 March, 2021, police were informed of a suspected explosive object found on the beach at Seamill.

“The incident was dealt with by the Coastguard and EOD and roads are now fully open.”
