Police are urging people to avoid a Scottish beach following the discovery of unexploded ordnance.

Emergency services raced to the scene on the Isle of Bute, with officers condoning off part of the beach near Ettrick Bay.

Police are remaining at the scene while explosive ordnance disposal crews attend to the explosive device.

Though there is no risk to the wider public., police are urging local residents to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers are asking members of the public to avoid Ettrick Bay and the surrounding area on the Isle of Bute following a report of unexploded ordnance.

"A safety cordon has been put in place. There is no risk to the wider public and EOD will attend to check the item and make it safe.
