Bomb squad race to Gourock after suspicious item found in water

A bomb squad has been called in to investigate a suspicious item found in the water in Gourock.

Police and the coastguard were called to Cove Road at around 7.55am this morning after an 'item' was found in the water.

Both emergency services have called on the help of a bomb squad to investigate the item spotted.

It remains unclear what the item is at the time of reporting.

Police Scotland have cordoned off the road while enquiries remain ongoing.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We were called to Cove Road at 7.55am this morning after an item was seen in the water.

"A bomb disposal team is attending the scene to investigate the finding further."
