Bomb squad race to Edinburgh street after unexploded device found in garden shed

A bomb squad have raced to a cul-de-sac in Edinburgh after an exploded ordinance was found in a garden shed.

Police cordoned off part of Blackford Bank in the city at around 9.45am on Saturday morning following the discovery.

It's believed specialist officers were called after the bomb was found during a house clearance.

A section of the road was sealed off but residents did not have to be evacuated.

An eyewitness told Edinburgh Live : "An older lady lived in the house and recently moved out.

"While they were clearing out the house they found something, but I'm not sure what yet."

Police Scotland say the item was found in a shed and has since been safely removed.

A spokesperson said: "We were made aware of unexploded ordnance found in a shed on Blackford Bank, Edinburgh, around 9.45am on Saturday, June 5.

"EOD attended and the item has now been safely removed.

"The area was cordoned off briefly as a precaution."
