Bomb squad in Leeds to deal with grenade which turned out to be a CHILD'S TOY

An army bomb squad was called to north Leeds to remove a suspected hand grenade which turned out to be a child's toy.

The explosive ordnance disposal team and West Yorkshire Police were sent to a waste site in Milner's Road, Yeadon, shortly after 11am on Thursday, March 21 after someone raised the alarm.

But police have confirmed that no explosives were found.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "At 11.07am today police received a report of an item, that appeared to be a grenade, being found at a waste site in Milner’s Road.

"A cordon was put in place and the Army bomb disposal team attended and checked the item which was found to be a toy.

"The cordon has now been removed."

It is the second time the bomb disposal team has been called to Yeadon in just two months.

Builders refurbishing the property in Albert Square found a hand grenade on February 7, but explosive experts confirmed that it was not live.
