Bomb squad in Kilmarnock following discovery of suspected 'explosive device'

A Kilmarnock street was locked down today following the discovery of a suspected explosive device.

Cops and bomb disposal experts raced to Whatriggs Road after the alarm was raised this afternoon.

The device was safely removed and destroyed by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD).

Police do not believe the incident is suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We received a report of a possible explosive device found at a property on Whatriggs Road in Kilmarnock.

"Explosive Ordnance Disposal were called to remove the item, which has since been safely destroyed.

"There are no suspicious circumstances."
