Bomb squad in attendance at Scots construction site after possible "ordnance" found

Emergency services are in attendance at a Fife building site after possible "legacy unexploded ordnance" was discovered.

The alarm was raised at around 12.10pm on Tuesday after workers spotted smoke coming from the ground in Lochgelly .

Local residents in the area surrounding Hugh Avenue have reportedly been told to keep their doors and windows closed while investigations are carried out.

A large cordon is in place at Hugh Avenue in Lochgelly (Fife Jammer Locations)

A British Army spokesman confirmed they are in attendance after receiving reports of a potential "legacy unexploded ordnance" being discovered.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they are also in attendance.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of smoke rising from the ground of a construction site on Hugh Avenue, Lochgelly, around 12.10pm on Tuesday, 10 March, 2020.

"Officers are assisting the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

"Local road closures are in place around Hugh Avenue. There is not believed to be any serious risk to the wider public."
