Bomb squad descends on Bury after 'suspicious object' found...it turned out to be an old piece of industrial equipment

A bomb squad descended on a beauty spot in Bury amid fears of a 'suspicious object' being found.

Police and bomb disposal officers were called to Kirklees Brook, near Island Lodge in Bury, at about 12.20pm on Monday.

Eyewitnesses said an area near to the lodge was sealed off for about an hour while the object was assessed.

However, it was deemed to be a non-viable device and is understood to have been an old piece of industrial equipment.

Images shared on social media showed the bomb squad on Mill Street in Greenmount.
