Bomb squad descend on Snuff Mills Park and tape off area

Bomb disposal experts cordoned off a section of Snuff Mills Park over fears about a "suspicious item".

Police received a call shortly after 12pm yesterday (August 13) from a man concerned about something his children had found in the stream through the Stapleton park.

But the concern proved to be unfounded – and police believe the item was "likely an old engine part or similar".

An Avon and Somerset police spokeswoman said: "The Explosives Ordance Disposal unit attended the scene and carried out investigations over the course of the afternoon.

"They disposed of the item after establishing that it did not pose any risk to the public."

The team were still on the scene at 5.50pm, when a witness posted on Facebook: "It's cordoned off and there are three police cars Snuff Mills end."

But the tape is believed to have been lifted soon afterwards.
