Bomb squad descend on residential street following discovery of 'suspect device'

A bomb disposal truck has been spotted on a quiet street in Caernarfon.

Police officers sealed off St David’s Road before carrying out house-to-house inquiries on Tuesday.

It's been reported that “a suspect device” has been removed from the area for further analysis.

North Wales Police said “no criminality” was involved, but told North Wales Live little else.

Reports claim the device was an old shell discovered in a garden during a house renovation.

Watching events unfold was fashion photographer Iolo Lewis Edwards, director of High Fashion Talk.

He said he first saw the bomb disposal vehicle parked up across the street at around 5pm.

“There didn’t seem to be an evacuation or anything like that which you might expect with a live bomb,” he told North Wales Live.

“The police went from house to house while uniformed military personnel in berets waited in the van, which seemed to be full of tools and equipment.”

A spokeswoman for North Wales Police confirmed that the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squadron had been called to the scene.

“We were made aware of a suspect device which has been safely removed from the area by the EOD,” she said.

“It was removed by the EOD to be identified.”

She said that “no criminality” was involved in the incident.
