Bomb squad deployed in West Lothian after suspicious package found near canal

Bomb squads carried out a controlled explosion after a suspicious package was found in West Lothian .

Emergency services rushed to Union Canal, near Badger Grove in Broxburn , on Friday at around 12.50pm.

Police officers closed the nearby A89 for more than three hours while the bomb disposal teams carried out a controlled explosion in a field next to the canal.

The road was reopened at 4pm after the package was deemed to be of no further risk to the public.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We were called to a report of a suspicious package at Union Canal near Badger Grove, Broxburn around 12.50pm on Friday, 29 November, 2019.

“The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team carried out a controlled explosion on a nearby field. The A89 was re-opened at 4.00pm.”
