The grounds of a Dublin hospital were closed off to the public this morning as the Defence Forces carried out a controlled explosion.
The Army Bomb Disposal Team rushed to St James's Hospital to carry out the operation after the discovery of an "explosive chemical".
Gardai were alerted about the "hazardous and suspicious substance" shortly after 7am immediately calling on the Bomb squad to intervene.
The team identified the material as a chemical that had become explosive and carried out a controlled explosion.
In an operation that lasted around two hours, the hardworking team deemed the area safe once again before leaving the scene.
A spokesman for the Defence Forces said: "Should members of the public encounter suspicious items, or hazardous substances, they are advised to maintain a safe distance and inform Gardai."
