Bomb squad carry out controlled explosion on WW2 device near Clydebank

A bomb squad carried out a controlled explosion on what appeared to be a WW2 device near Clydebank.

Police were called to reports of the object at around 5pm on Wednesday June 17 after it was discovered by a member of the public in the Kilpatrick Hills.

A cordon was thrown up to secure the area and the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were called in.

They carried out the controlled explosion around 9.30pm.

Area Commander Chief Inspector Scott Carlin said "We would like to thank the member of the public who reported finding this device and encourage anyone who finds any similar suspicious items to call the police immediately.”
