Bomb squad called to Tameside after device found in canal

Police cordoned off a main road in Tameside after a device was found in the canal.

Officers attended Edge Lane, Droylsden, following the discovery just after 4pm on Sunday afternoon (September 20).

Part of the road - which runs directly over the Ashton Canal - was cordoned off while emergency crews dealt with the incident.

The Royal Logistic Corps Bomb Disposal unit was also in attendance.

Neighbours told the M.E.N that some people were magnet fishing in the canal when the device was discovered on Sunday afternoon.
