Bomb squad called to St Andrew's House in Edinburgh after discovery of suspicious item

Civil servants were evacuated from St Andrews House in central Edinburgh following the discovery of a suspicious item.

A bomb disposal team was called to the Scottish Government's premises on Regent Road, who later found the item was "innocent in nature."

Police Scotland said the building was evacuated as a precaution and there was no risk to the public.

It follows a similar incident on Holyrood Road on Tuesday, which saw a controlled explosion carried out.

Superintendent Mark Rennie said: "Police were called to St Andrew's House in Edinburgh after a suspicious item was found within the building.

"As a precautionary measure, in accordance with procedures, staff were evacuated from the building and a cordon implemented.

"Following examination of the item by EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) it was confirmed that the item posed no threat to the public and was innocent in nature."
