Bomb squad called to Rutherglen home after device found in garden

Bomb squads were called to an address in Rutherglen, near Glasgow yesterday after reports of an object in a garden.

Roads were closed off to the public while specialist officers worked to secure the area.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) disposed of the object, which was found on Burnside Road, Rutherglen.

Fortunately the device was not live.

Inspector Scott Anderson said: “Police received a report of a possible ordnance found in the garden of a property on Burnside Road, Rutherglen around 3.45pm on Saturday, 18 July, 2020.

"Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended and disposed of the device, stating it was not live. The roads between Upper Bourtree Drive and the Cathkin bypass re opened around 6.30pm.”
