Bomb squad called to Monifieth after ‘suspicious device’ discovered by workmen

Part of a Monifieth housing estate was evacuated yesterday while army experts dealt with a ‘suspicious’ device.

Police were called to Angus Court on the Victoria Grange estate after workmen discovered what was initially described as an ‘unexploded bomb.’

Officers attended just before 3pm on Wednesday and set up a cordon and Army bomb disposal experts were also called to the scene.

However police confirmed later in the evening that the incident was ‘a false alarm with good intent.’

A force spokesman said: “We were called around 2.40pm on Wednesday, October 27, to a report of a device found by workmen at a property in Angus Court, Monifieth.

“EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) was made aware. A cordon was put in place, some properties were evacuated and local roads were closed as a precaution.

“This was a false alarm with good intent and there was no wider threat to the public.”
