Bomb squad called to house as ‘number of suspicious packages’ found in police raid

Police had to call for a bomb squad to provide assistance after a small number of "potentially suspicious packages" were found inside a property during a raid.

Residents were ordered to evacuate their homes on Wednesday afternoon to make way for the Armed Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team, who carried out work at the house in question.

Bomb experts carefully made their way into the building, in Thornhill, West Yorkshire, to examine and defuse and potential dangers.

A police cordon remains in place in the nearby area as officers continue to carry out their investigation into the threatening discovery.

However, cops have issued a statement this evening to reassure residents that people have been evacuated as a “precautionary measure”.

Chief Inspector James Troisi, of Kirklees Police, said: “I appreciate that there may be concern in the community about this, but we have a number of local officers in the area and it is absolutely standard procedure to evacuate nearby properties in such situations as a precaution.”

The bomb squad were called the house situated in Foxroyd Lane after the search was carried out, according to Yorkshire Live.

Anyone with information should contact West Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting log 776 of November 10.
