Bomb squad called to Edinburgh's Princes Street after report of 'man acting suspiciously'

A bomb squad has been called to Princes Street in Edinburgh after a man was spotted acting suspiciously in the area shortly before a bag was found nearby. Cops have locked down the street and put a cordon in place as a precautionary measure.

Emergency services were called to the incident around 5.30pm on Thursday after reports of a man acting suspiciously. Police remain in attendance while they await the arrival of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD).

Access to Waverley station from Princes Street is restricted while the cordon remains in place as the station can only be accessed via the Market Street entrance. All train services are operating normally.

Photographs from the scene show a heavy police presence on the street as a police cordon has been erected near to Barclays Bank and multiple officers can be seen standing in the middle of the road.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.30pm on Thursday, 10 November, 2022 officers were called to Princes Street, Edinburgh to a report of a man was acting suspiciously. A bag was later found nearby and a cordon has been put in place as a precaution. Officers are in attendance and have called EOD.”

Network Rail tweeted: "Due to the ongoing police incident on Princes Street, Edinburgh Waverley can only be accessed via the Market Street entrance. All train services are operating normally. Please speak to railway staff if you need any assistance or advice."
