Bomb squad called to Blackpool beach after suspicious item discovered

The bomb squad has been called to a Blackpool beach after a suspicious item was found in the sand.

The object was discovered on the beach at around 1.30pm on Thursday.

A cordon has now been put in place on the stretch of beach near South Promenade.

Military explosive experts have been called to the beach.

A spokesperson from Lancashire Police said: "We were called at 1.30pm today (Thursday, July 11) by the Coastguard after reports a suspicious item had been found on the beach off South Promenade, Blackpool. 

"A cordon is in place and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team has been called."
