Bomb squad called and busy bridge closed after 'explosive' found

THE bomb squad has been called after reports that an explosive device has been found on a building site near the Renfrew bridge. 

The Renfrew Bridge, which connects Renfrewshire to Glasgow's Yoker, is closed after the alarm was raised at 10am this morning.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said in a statement: "Renfrew Bridge is closed after a possible ordnance device was found around 10am this morning on a building site nearby.

"Explosive Ordnance Disposal has been contacted.

"Motorists and pedestrians are asked to find alternative routes."
