Bomb squad called after suspicious package found at An Post depot in Co Limerick

The Defence Forces have been called in after a suspicious package was discovered at an An Post depot.

The discovery was made by staff just after 6am this morning at the premises on the Dock Road in Co Limerick.

A spokesperson for the Defence Forces confirmed that they had been contacted by Gardai.

Members of the Explosives Ordinance Disposal team are expected to arrive at the scene later today.

Up to 100 staff members working at the sorting office were evacuated after the alarm was raised.

The area has been sealed off by gardai.

A spokesperson said: "Shortly after 6am, Gardaí in Henry street received a report of a suspect package at the An Post sorting office, Dock Road, Co Limerick.

"The building has been evacuated and the army EOD team have been notified.

"No other information is available at this time."
