A police bomb squad was deployed to the Gallowgate this afternoon after fireworks were discovered in a shop hit by fire at the weekend.
As reported on Glasgow Live, six Scottish Fire and Rescue Service appliances were sent to the east end street, and the building made famous by one of the city’s Billy Connolly murals, around 5.22pm on Saturday (May 16).
Enquiries are ongoing and the blaze is being treated as deliberate.
Today, onlookers reported seeing a van marked Royal Logistics Corps Bomb Disposal.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed the team were dealing with fireworks found within a shop there.
She said: “We received a report of a fire within a shop on Gallowgate, Glasgow, around 5.30pm on Saturday, 16 May.
"Nobody was injured as a result of the fire which is being treated as wilful.
“Fireworks were found within the property and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were contacted to safely remove them.
“Enquiries are ongoing."
