Bomb squad at Scots Tesco call centre after 'suspicious package' delivered

A specialist bomb squad has been called to a busy Scots call centre after the discovery of a ‘suspicious package’.

The alarm was raised at the Tesco Customer Engagement Centre in Dundee shortly after 10am on Monday.

Police locked down the surrounding roads including the city’s Kingsway as a precaution.

Staff were also been evacuated from the building ‘as a precaution’ while emergency services dealt with the ongoing incident.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said:"We were made aware around 10.10am on Monday, 21 December of a potentially suspicious package received at premises on Baird Avenue in Dundee.

"A cordon was put in place as a precaution.

"Explosive Ordnance Disposal attended and the contents of the package were found to be non-suspicious. The cordon has since been removed."

Traffic Scotland has warned motorists of potential delays in the area after a section of the A90 was closed in connection with the incident.

They tweeted: “A90 Kingsway Dundee is closed in both directions. Coupar Angus Road - Kings Cross Road due to a police incident.”

The road reopened at around 12.50pm.

A Tesco Spokesperson said: “Our Dundee Customer Engagement Centre building was briefly closed to allow police to conduct their investigation. This is now resolved and the building is open as normal.”
