A ‘suspicious package’ discovered at a Dundee shopping centre sparked multiple street closures as emergency services raced to the scene.
Police were called to the Overgate Shopping Centre in the Nethergate area of the city at around 3.15pm on Wednesday after the alarm was raised.
A number of road blocks were put in place by officers with public buses being temporarily diverted while the incident was dealt with.
The suspect item, understood to be a suitcase, was found to contain ‘discarded, broken items’ which officers say posed no danger to the public.
All affected roads have since been reopened however bus operator Xplore Dundee have warned of ‘residual delays’ to services.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.15pm on Wednesday, 16 June, we were made aware of a suspicious package at the Overgate Shopping Centre, Nethergate, Dundee.
“As a precaution a number of local roads were closed while the item was examined. It was found to be discarded, broken items and there was no threat to the wider public.
“The roads were opened a short time later.”
