Bomb scare at Edinburgh's Crown Office after report of 'suspicious package'

A bomb disposal team was called out to the Crown Office building in Edinburgh after reports of a 'suspicious package'.

Police shut off Chambers Street in the city’s Old Town on Tuesday following the discovery.

Bomb disposal experts and firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

A cordon was put in place stretching from the north end of Chambers Street to the entrance to Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Business at the sheriff court was continuing as the alert remained ongoing.

The bomb disposal team were seen quizzing staff about the package following their arrival.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of an unidentified package at a building on Chambers Street, Edinburgh around 10.55am on Tuesday, 27 September, 2022.

“Officers attended and the building was evacuated.

“The package was found to be non-suspicious and there was no wider risk to the public.”

The Crown Office have been contacted for comment.
