Bomb disposal team called to Scottish beach after 'suspect item' found

A BOMB disposal team was called to a Scottish beach over the weekend after a suspected ordnance was discovered.

The Greenock coastguard rescue team are reminding residents not to touch unusual items found on Inverclyde’s shores following a suspected ordnance spotting between Inverkip and Lunderston Bay.

On Sunday, the coastguard was called out to the stretch of beach along the Firth of Clyde to assess the item before the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EOD) attended and removed the item for disposal.

While waiting for the EOD team, a 100m cordon was put in place.

In a post on Facebook, the Greenock coastguard reminded people that if they find a discarded maritime distress flare or ordnance to not touch it, keep a safe distance and call 999 and ask for the coastguard.

“If you are venturing for a walk along the coast please take care, stay safe and if in doubt – get us out.”

The coastguard would like to thank the members of the public who followed the correct procedure and called them.
