Bomb disposal team called to Horden house after landmine found on beach

A bomb disposal team removed a landmine from a County Durham home which was found at the beach.

The landmine was found at Horden beach on June 15 before it was taken back to a home in the village.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and police were called to the house on Handley Street at around 8.55pm on Tuesday.

A team of officers from the Military of Defence team removed the item, which they concluded was not a live explosive.

A Durham Constabulary spokeswoman said: “Police were called to a property in Handley Street, Horden, at 8.55pm on June 15 following reports that the occupant had found what they believed to be a landmine on Horden beach.

“The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team also attended and removed the item, which they concluded was not a live explosive.”
