Bomb disposal officers called to Tameside street after ‘suspected grenade’ found

Bomb disposal experts were called to a quiet street in Tameside when residents found a suspected grenade.

Delamere Road, in Denton, was cordoned off by police at around 2pm when the device was discovered on Wednesday afternoon (August 12).

Specialist officers from the Royal Logistic Corps were called to the scene and worked to make the area safe.

The bomb squad safely removed the device to a nearby field, where a “controlled explosion” was carried out.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 2pm today (Wednesday 12 August 2020) police were called to a report that a suspected grenade had been found at a property on Delamere Road, Tameside.

“Bomb disposal officers attended and safely removed the device to a nearby field where a controlled explosion was carried out.”
