Bomb disposal called after mystery object washes up on Welsh beach

Bomb disposal units were called to Carmarthenshire on Sunday after Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of an unidentified and suspicious object found on Cefn Sidan in Pembrey.

Explosive ordnance disposal were alerted to the situation and arrived at the scene during the early evening.

The object has since been identified as a spent smoke ordnance, which was later removed from the beach.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Dyfed-Powys Police attended a report of an unidentified suspicious object on Cefn Sidan beach.

"Police received the call at approximately 4.40pm on Sunday, March 15.

"EOD were alerted and travelled to the scene to investigate.

"The object was identified as a spent smoke ordnance and removed."

It is the latest in a long list of unexpected items that have washed up on the shores of Cefn Sidan, including a human skull, aircraft wreckage and a grenade.
