Bolton Wanderers winger Marcus Maddison responds after red card on debut against Morecambe

Bolton Wanderers winger Marcus Maddison has apologised to his team-mates and the club's supporters after being sent off on his debut against Morecambe.

Maddison has joined the League Two side on loan from Charlton Athletic for the rest of the season.

He made his awaited Bolton debut in the second half of the clash against Morecambe, replacing Arthur Gnahoua just after the hour mark.

But his Wanderers debut lasted little over 10 minutes after referee Oliver Langford showed him a straight red card for a challenge on Aaron Wildig.

Bolton were winning at the time thanks to Eoin Doyle's first half strike, and had to settle for a point after Brad Lyons nodded in an equaliser for the Shrimps as full-time approached.

Maddison has taken to Twitter to apologise for his dismissal, which he admits he was 'baffled' by due to getting to the ball first and believing Wildig follows through on him.

He feels it has cost his new side two points and has apologised for the red card.

He posted: "I can only apologise to the boys and fans. I’m not a malicious player and the fact I’ve got the ball first and he follows through on me baffles me more.

"It’s cost us two points in a game we were comfortable in and I take the blame for that, sorry again."

After the game, Wanderers boss Ian Evatt confirmed the club are considering appealing the dismissal, with the Trotters manager believing that it was not a red card offence.
