Bolton Wanderers transfer ins and outs so far and where Trotters could strengthen ahead of domestic deadline day

It has been a busy summer in the transfer market for Bolton Wanderers.

A total of 19 new players have come through the doors at the University of Bolton Stadium either permanently or on loan so far.

The recruitment began with League Two's top goalscorer from last season Eoin Doyle joining on July 10 to become new Wanderers boss Ian Evatt's first signing at the club.

Since then, a further 18 new players have arrived at the League Two side, the most recent of these being winger Lloyd Isgrove and forward Arthur Gnahoua.

Though one transfer deadline day came and went last week, another one is due to close this Friday.

Last week saw the window for international arrivals slam shut, which primarily affected clubs in the Premier League and to an extent, the Championship.

The domestic only window between clubs in the Premier League and the EFL closes on Friday, October 16, at 5pm.

Clubs from the Premier League can sign players from the EFL and visa versa up until the second transfer window closes.

Equally, EFL clubs can still trade amongst themselves, unlike Premier League clubs, with no restriction on transfers within the same division.

Here, we take a look at the ins and outs at Wanderers so far over an incredibly busy summer in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as looking at what deals could still yet be done at Bolton before the window slams shut at the end of this week.

What business could still be done?

In terms of incomings, Ian Evatt has said in the past he is looking at the loan market for new arrivals into his squad rather than free agents due to the time it takes to bring the latter up to speed.

Discussions have taken place with Premier League clubs over the potential of bringing in prospects from Category 1 academies.

In terms of areas of the pitch being targeted, the Wanderers head coach has identified the right hand side of the pitch as a place to strengthen, following the loss of Gethin Jones to injury and leaving Bolton light in that area for the foreseeable future.

Midfielder Tom White is also facing a spell on the sidelines due to injury.

In terms of outgoings, Evatt said last week that if Bolton need to be 'ruthless' and loan players out to make way for new arrivals, then that will be done.

Wanderers have a squad limit of 23 players to call upon this season.

Bolton currently only have two younger players out on loan with George Thomason and Callum King-Harmes sent out to get experience at Northern Premier League outfit Bamber Bridge.

Evatt has previously suggested that question marks surrounding the restart of non-league football and the financial uncertainty at that level of the pyramid have meant not as many young players have been shipped out to gain experience so far as he would like.
