Bolton Wanderers suffer Declan John injury blow and team news ahead of Exeter City clash

Bolton Wanderers will be without new signing Declan John for tomorrow's game against Exeter City after the Swansea City loanee suffered a hamstring injury in training.

The 25-year-old was confirmed as a Trotters player last week after joining the club from the Championship side until the end of the season.

He could have made his debut for the club tomorrow against Exeter at St James Park.

But John has suffered a hamstring injury towards the end of a training session today which is poised to keep him out of action between two and four weeks.

Wanderers manager Ian Evatt said: " We’ve got two new bodies in but Declan’s hurt his hamstring in training today, so it never rains but it pours.

"We’ll see how that settles and we’ll get him scanned to see the extent. There was literally two minutes of training left so we’re unfortunate with that one.

" Initial thoughts are that it’s in the belly of the muscle but it’s significant enough for it to be probably two to four weeks.

"We’ll get him scanned and see. The issue we’ve got is he’s electric quick and really pacy, so the hamstrings are a big part of his game so we’ll have to make sure that he’s right before he returns, but I would think two to four weeks."

Bolton will also be without defender Reiss Greenidge who is suspended after being sent off last time out against Crawley Town, as well as Peter Kioso who has been recalled from his loan spell by parent club Luton Town.

The Trotters will also be without two players, who Evatt has declined to name, after the duo tested positive for coroanvirus last week.

But Bolton have no fresh injury doubts or absences heading into tomorrow's clash against the Grecians.

He said: " Obviously other than the two Covid issues and now Declan, everyone else is okay.

“We’ve got two (positive) cases. Both are fine, both are asymptomatic, both are recovering well and obviously we had some players missing this week who were close contacts to those.

"However they’ve been since tested and tested negative so they’ve been back in with us."
