Bolton Wanderers 'quite far down the line' with new signing and injury update ahead of Forest Green Rovers

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has confirmed the club are 'quite far down the line' with bringing another new signing into the club.

The Whites boss has signed 17 players so far this summer as he has shaped a new look squad at the University of Bolton Stadium.

The most recent of these was striker Shaun Miller, who was announced as a Bolton player before the Carabao Cup defeat to Bradford City and scored his first Wanderers goal in Tuesday night's EFL Trophy defeat to Crewe Alexandra.

Speaking ahead of the League Two opener against Forest Green Rovers this Saturday, Evatt revealed that progress has been made with a prospective new signing.

Despite confirming that the deal does not appear to be imminent, the Wanderers boss confirmed that the club is 'getting there' with signing number 18 of the summer.

Asked about competition for places in the starting XI ahead of the season opener, Evatt said: "I think we probably need one or two more.

"We are quite far down the line with certainly one of those.

"Now, for reasons I can’t really say or speak about, he won’t be here just yet but in principle we’re getting there."

Regarding injury news for Saturday's opener against the Green Devils, Evatt confirmed that 'three or four' players have picked up knocks in the defeat to Crewe, which could keep them out of action this weekend.

Evatt said: "We’ve picked up some and I think going back to the situation of when players are coming in late into pre-season and you’re chucking them in the deep end, they are going to pick up niggles.

"I’m not going to name names, but we’ve got probably three or four that have picked up knocks and niggles which could potentially keep them out of Saturday."
