Bolton Wanderers prospect has surgery on knee after picking up ACL injury

Bolton Wanderers prospect Finlay Lockett is going under the knife today for surgery on an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury.

The 18-year-old picked up the injury playing for the club's under 18s side, for whom he scored 19 times and picked up 18 assists.

The player's representatives, Zodiak Sports Group, have taken to social media to confirm that Lockett is having surgery today.

A message on Twitter read: "Best wishes to Fin today with your surgery! We're sure you'll be back stronger."

Lockett has played five times for the club in all competitions since making his debut against Coventry City in August 2019 aged 16 as Wanderers fielded their youngest ever line-up.

He played two times last season in the first team for Ian Evatt, coming off the bench in the loss on the road to Colchester United and starting the EFL Trophy loss at Montgomery Waters Meadow against Shrewsbury Town.

In the club's retained list issued last month, Wanderers said that discussions were ongoing with Lockett and other second year scholars over their future at the club.

However, the player himself has previously taken to Instagram to say he has been offered a professional contract and has vowed to return stronger from the lay-off, which he posted will keep him out of action for some nine months.
