Bolton Wanderers player ratings vs Port Vale - Lloyd Isgrove and Dapo Afolayan good

Matt Gilks - 6

Made solid early stop to deny David Amoo but could have done much better to stop second Vale goal. Looked alright otherwise.

Harry Brockbank - 6

Got forward well at times early on but influence waned as the game went on. Jury still out on whether right-back is his best position.

Ricardo Almeida Santos - 6

Solid one-on-one defending and composure in possession generally. Was booked for rash challenge on Devante Rodney.

Alex Baptiste - 6

Made serveral clearances when needed but out of position at times. Booked for foul on George Lloyd as full-time approached.

Liam Gordon - 6

Let Vale in down his flank too many times defensively in the first half, but looked good going forwards, as was demonstrated with his work in build-upt to Afolayan's goal.

Andrew Tutte - 7

First start of the season and some good early passes and work rate from central midfielder, showing tenacity in the middle and helped create second goal with run.

George Thomason - 7

Great energy as ever from youngster in the middle of the park as got a full 90 minutes under the belt.

Lloyd Isgrove - 8

Great workrate throughout and some dangerous crosses in the first half, notching an assist for Doyle's strike and then putting in cross for Delfouneso's header. Woodwork denied him free-kick goal.

Nathan Delfouneso- 7

Played centrally behind Doyle and looked better there compared to out wide. Got goal with header at near post which will hopefully give confidence boost. Moved to the right when Doyle went off.

Elias Kachunga - 6

Started on the left before going through the middle. Touches of quality at times

Eoin Doyle - 7

Clinical first half finish when chance presented itself and worked hard leading the line throughout.

Substitutes

Antoni Sarcevic - 6

Good energy from the skipper in the engine room after coming on.

Dapo Afolayan - 7

Went to the left flank after coming on and caused problems for the visitors. Did well with precise finish which proved to be the winner.

Mitchell Henry - 5

Came on late for Kachunga but had little time to make impact.
