Bolton Wanderers player ratings vs Ipswich - Morley impresses as Jones and Fossey link up well

Bolton have picked up a priceless and deserved 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town.

Buoyed by new arrivals and returning absentees, Bolton looked like a different team to the one which has trudged to defeats in recent weeks and put in a confident display full of heart and excitement.

Kieran Lee scored the opener following a beautiful passing move that harked back to Mark Davies' famed strike against Blackpool, though this time the finishing touch came as a rebound.

Then Dapo Afolayan made it two after capitalising on a horrendous mistake from a defender before firing in to the bottom corner.

Here's how the players did:

James Trafford

After a nervy start where he misplaced a couple of passes, Trafford grew. He remained composed and patient on the ball, regardless of how quickly he was being closed down, and started to knock the ball around nicely. A smart save down to his left as well as showing good hands to catch a header from close range as the stadium held its breath saw his confidence grow further. There was much concern from the fans about signing another teenage keeper, but he may have put some of those fears to rest on his debut. 6.5 .

Gethin Jones

A welcomed and much-needed return to the starting XI. Jones was really solid at the back when tucking into a back three and linked with Fossey going forward well. Some lovely clipped balls over the top. A well earned standing ovation after being substituted in the 90th minute. 7.

Ricardo Santos

Was kept busy by James Norwood but handled him well, calling upon his imposing stature on a few occasions in the first 45 and in the second he threw made some brave blocks, important interception and really led the team. Played a few excellent diagonal passes, too. 7.

George Johnston

A bit sloppy on the ball and got away with one in the first-half when he gave it away and then missed the resuing cross, relying on Santos to clear the danger. 5.5.

Declan John

Did really well to set up Dion Charles for a chance that only a great save denied and played his part in the first goal, but otherwise looks a little bereft of confidence at present. 5.

MJ Williams

Not his best game as an early booking blunted his tackles. Was given a bit of a run around by Sone Aluko and a couple of mistakes on the ball, but remained an important presence in the middle. 6.

Aaron Morley

A really strong debut from the new midfielder. Already on all the set pieces, possessing a wicked delivery and tenacious in midfield. Confident on the ball and looks to be a real coup for Bolton. An assist in his first game, with his shot leading to Lee scoring the rebound, is a great start. 7.

Marlon Fossey

Pushed further forward as a wing-back, Fossey really impressed. His pace and determination make him a dangerous asset going forward, as he can sniff out chances from very little and worries defences. Not scared of throwing himself into a tackle, either. 7.5

Kieran Lee

Had some lovely touches in the middle of the park, created Bolton's best chances and was instrumental in the goal. He scored it, obviously, but there was a lovely back-heel in the move that led to Morley's shot. 8.

Amadou Bakayoko

Though a sloppy touch and hesitancy to commit his whole body to half chances threatened to let him down, a total selfless display made those flaws forgivable. He ran and chased for everything all game and his link up play with the likes of Lee and Fossey was excellent, directly leading to the opener. 7

Dion Charles

Was a nuisance for the Ipswich centre-backs and looked really tidy with the ball at his feet, especially on the turn, but needs to start taking his chances. Also agonisingly took the ball off Morley's toes just as he was about to shoot in a good position. 6

Substitutes

Dapo Afolayan

Chases what appeared to be a dead cause and got the crucial second goal out of it. Took his finish brilliantly in a great response to being dropped. 7

Will Aimson and Nathan Delfouneso

Both came on in the 90th minute and didn't have time to make an impact. N/A
